Lume Deodorant for Feet: Does It Actually Work?

By Paul G.
Published: July 16, 2026

The Short Answer

  • Yes, Lume can work on your feet. It is a whole body deodorant, and your feet are part of your body.
  • It is built for everywhere, so it is not built around feet. Feet sweat more and get sealed in a shoe all day.
  • The bigger gap: it goes on your skin, not your shoes. Smelly shoes put the smell right back on clean feet.
  • If feet are your only issue, a foot deodorant plus a shoe spray is the more direct fix.

If you have seen the Lume ads, you already know the pitch. One deodorant for your whole body. Pits, privates, feet, all of it.

So, does it actually work on your feet? It can. But feet are a different animal than the rest of your body, and a whole body product comes up short for them in a couple of ways.

I have not used Lume on my feet myself, so this is not a review. I have just spent years deep in foot odor and read up on how it works. So I can give you the honest picture, the good and the not-so-good.

What Is Lume, Exactly?

Lume is a whole body deodorant. The idea is one product you can use anywhere. Your underarms, your feet, and the more private spots most deodorants stay away from.

A few facts, straight from them. It is aluminum-free and baking-soda-free. It uses mandelic acid and works on pH to control odor instead of blocking sweat. Lume says it is clinically proven to give up to 72 hours of odor control. It was started by a doctor. It runs around $14 for a stick.

Real quick, an honest note. I actually use Mando, the men's brand from the same company as Lume. Not on my feet though, on my underarms. And it works. I have been on it for about two years.

One thing I have noticed lately. The protection does not seem to last as long as it used to. Early on I could go the whole day, no problem. Now I start to catch a little smell by the evening. I can't prove why. It might just be me. But it feels like my body got used to it over time. Take it for what it's worth, that is one guy's experience.

Does Lume Work on Feet?

Yes. It can help. It is a deodorant, your feet make odor, and it is made to go on skin anywhere. Plenty of people use it on their feet and it takes the edge off.

If you want one product for your whole body, and simple is what matters most to you, that is a real reason to like it.

But feet are their own animal. Here is where it gets more complicated.

Where Lume Gets Complicated for Feet

One stick for everywhere? Most people won't.

Here is the thing about "one product for your whole body." In real life, most people won't use the same stick on their armpits and their feet.

And it makes sense. We treat feet different from the rest of the body. They go in socks, in shoes, on the floor. A lot of people don't even like touching them. Your armpits stay tucked away and barely touch a thing all day. Rubbing the same stick on both just feels off to most people.

So in practice, most people grab a second one just for their feet. And if you are already buying a separate stick only for your feet, you might as well get one that was actually made for feet.

Your feet are not your armpits

A whole body deodorant is like a universal remote. It works on everything, which also means it was not designed around any one thing.

Your feet are the extreme case. They have around 250,000 sweat glands, more than anywhere else on your body, per the National Library of Medicine. Then you seal them inside a shoe for 10 or 12 hours with no air. That is a lot more sweat and a lot more trapped heat than your underarms ever deal with. A product built to cover your whole body is not built around that.

It goes on your skin, not your shoes

This is the big one, and it has nothing to do with how good Lume is.

Lume treats skin. It does not touch your shoes. And your shoes are half the problem. The smell lives in the lining and the insole, so you can have the cleanest feet in the world, slide them into yesterday's shoes, and the smell climbs right back on. Your feet and your shoes trade it back and forth all day.

Any skin-only product runs into this, Lume included. If you only treat your feet, you are doing half the job. I got into the feet-and-shoes side of this here.

The routine has to fit your morning

Foot odor is a daily thing. The sweat happens every day. The shoes go back on every day. So whatever you use has to be easy enough that you actually do it every morning, even on a rushed one.

A stick you rub on works fine for some people. Others want something that dries fast and goes on before socks with no wait. That is a personal call, not a knock on Lume. Just know the product you will actually keep using beats the one that sits in a drawer.

What Else People Use for Foot Odor

If you are shopping around, here is the honest landscape, not just my stuff.

  • Whole body deodorants (Lume, plus Dove, Secret, and Native all make one now). One product everywhere. Convenient.
  • Foot powders (Gold Bond, Dr. Scholl's). Cheap and they soak up sweat. They also make a mess and cake up.
  • Antiperspirants for feet (Carpe, Certain Dri). These block sweat instead of odor. Good if sweat is your main issue, more of a hassle to use. I broke down Carpe here.
  • Foot deodorants and shoe sprays. Built only for feet and shoes. Less flexible than a whole body product, more focused on this one problem.

There is no single right answer. It comes down to whether you want one product for everything, or the most direct fix for feet.

What I Use

I dealt with bad foot odor for years and tried a pile of stuff before I landed on something that stuck. My uncle runs a cosmetic lab in Costa Rica, so we built a formula for it, and I have used it every day since.

Mine is not a whole body deodorant. It is the opposite bet. Two products that only do feet and shoes. A roll-on for your feet in the morning, and a spray for your shoes at night. The roll-on dries in a few seconds so your socks go right over it. The spray handles the shoes, which is the part a skin deodorant like Lume cannot reach.

If you want one thing for your whole body, Lume is a fair pick and I am not going to pretend otherwise. If your feet are the actual problem and you want the most direct fix, the kit is what I built and what I use.

Whichever way you go, the trick is the same. Pick something simple and stay on it. That is the part that actually fixes this.

Lume for Feet FAQs

Can you use Lume on your feet?

Yes. Lume is a whole body deodorant, so it is made to go on skin anywhere, feet included. Just know it treats your skin, not your shoes, so if your shoes hold odor, that part goes untouched.

Which Lume is best for feet?

Lume makes a few forms (a stick, a cream, and a spray). Any of them can go on feet. If you want it for feet specifically, most people reach for the cream or the stick on clean, dry skin. Check Lume's own site for their current lineup.

How do you use Lume on your feet?

Same as anywhere else. Clean, dry feet, then rub a little on the spots that smell, including between the toes where a lot of the odor starts. Let it dry before socks. Reapply based on how your day goes.

Carpe or Lume for feet, which is better?

They do different jobs. Carpe is an antiperspirant, it blocks sweat. Lume is a deodorant, it works on the odor. If your main issue is sweat soaking through socks, that points to an antiperspirant. If it is the smell, a deodorant makes more sense. Here is my honest take on Carpe.

Does regular deodorant work on feet too?

Kind of, for an hour or two. It is not built for how much your feet sweat. I got into whether you can put deodorant on your feet here.
